Redoubt, Alaska - 2003; Brown bears gain up to 400 pounds of fat during the summer as they plan for the long winter months when they become very lethargic and burrow in caves, crevices or hollow logs. After many hours of tedious salmon fishing in the stream above, this brown bear wandered down to the edge of the lake to take a break from the work at hand.
