1017 – Eagle Hunting
Alaska - 2010; Grand Prize - Alaska Travel; The bald eagle became the National emblem in 1782 when the great seal of the United States was adopted. Some say the bald eagle was chosen because of its great strength, majestic looks, and the fact that it is indigenous to North America. Another theory claims that the noise of the first battle of the American Revolution awoke the resting eagles above and they flew from their nests circling over the heads of the fighting patriots who were yelling “They (the eagles) are shrieking for freedom.” Whatever anecdote you believe, there is no doubt that the eagle represents freedom. Living as it does on the tops of lofty mountains amid the solitary majesty of nature, eagles have unlimited freedom; whether swooping into the valleys below, or upward into the boundless skies above.
