2928 – White Tree

Monument Valley Utah - 2009; Monument Valley is a part of the Colorado Plateau, a region that covers 130,000 square miles within northwestern New Mexico, southeastern Utah, and northern Arizona. The valley floor is principally Cutler Red siltstone deposited in layers by streams carrying sediments from the ancestral Rockies. The iron oxide in the weathered siltstone gives the valley its red color. This ashen tree in the midst of a clear vibrant blue sky and the energetic red hue of the landscape provides a dramatic contrast in this image taken in mid-afternoon.
