546 – Yangtze

Yangtze River China - 2005; This image is unique because it is under 250 feet of water since the closing of the three gorges dam. The Yangtze is the longest river in Asia, and the third-longest in the world. It flows for 3,988 miles from the glaciers on the Tibetan Plateau in Qinghai eastward across southwest, central and eastern China before emptying into the East China Sea at Shanghai. The river winds through some of China’s most spectacular scenery. A view from one of the many tributaries of the Yangtze, reveals the splendor of the lush mountains in the hazy background.
